Project Studios has re-launched The New Collective program! We have art studio memberships available right now at our location at the Neumann Leathers complex in Hoboken.
We are currently seeking new members. There is no long-term commitment required and no waitlist to join. The cost is $250.00 per month. There are no hidden fees and no sign-up fee. Contact us for details.
The New Collective is our unique at-large studio membership for access to all of our shared studios and equipment. Many of our shops have more gear than local universities, and we purchase new equipment often. For details, check out the various studio pages on this site.
The New Collective program is perfect for visual artists, designers, and photographers who need tools and a place to work. It’s as simple as a gym membership. Members chart their own path.
A Clay Studio only membership is also available.
The New Collective works like a residency. Each member gets a 3 x 4 ft. bulk storage locker, and 24-hour access to the Clay Studio, our Natural Light Photo Studio, Wood Shop, Spray Room, general-purpose studio, and Printmaking Area. There are also options for use of metal and glass equipment, however at this time due to space constraints, the metal and glass shops are not available and are being relocated to Jersey City. Members do not have a personal studio unit.
Memberships are for individuals. There is no group membership plan, and at this time we don’t offer classroom instruction. The New Collective program is perfect for visual artists, designers, and photographers who need tools and a place to work.
Although members may use any shop at any time, we require each member to select one area of concentration. For example, a printmaker would be based in our printmaking area, utilizing a flat file and tool crib for storage. A potter would claim a shelf in the Clay Studio, and so on. Each studio area has convenient and appropriate storage options. Additionally, lockers are available to all members.
The studios are kept secure with smart locks or code entry, so no keys are needed. Health and safety at our studios is a high priority, and we selected many of our power tools, such as our SawStop table saw and Sawtrax panel saw, with safety in mind. We keep our shops clean and well-lit. Exhaust fans and HEPA filters reduce unwanted particles in the air.
Don’t worry, we also provide space to be dirty. The second-floor Spray Room is perfect for stone carving, spray-painting, air-brushing, sanding, or mixing dry materials like cement and plaster. The twin industrial exhaust fans move hundreds of cubic feet of air per minute. There are no noise restrictions for our shop spaces.
There are some restrictions regarding raw materials in our shops related to toxicity or compatibility. These will be discussed in detail with members during tours or orientation. Some materials can be purchased directly from Project Studios, and there is also an abundance of shared materials to use. Our ceramic glaze inventory is legendary.
Cameras monitor all studio common areas, and we regularly have Project Studios personnel on-site as shop monitors. We resolve safety and maintenance issues quickly. Our people are all creatives, with degrees in art and music. They know their stuff.
Members can participate in Raku firings and other activities such as studio tours, exhibitions, and demonstrations. Our studios have Wi-Fi throughout, and most of the shared studios have stereo systems with smart device connectivity.
For almost 20 years, Project Studios has provided competitively-priced studios for fine art, design, and music.
Neumann Leathers is the creative hub of Hoboken and an important regional asset, and The New Collective studio program at Project Studios is the low-cost way to become part of it.
